First Day Back & Phat (FAT) Breakfast

Posted by Brian Neudorff on November 5th, 2008

Ok so far not so good. Coming in after election day they had donuts. I feel and maybe even look like Homer Simpson, “mmmmmm donuts” so yes a little hungry I hate a few donut holes. I know I know not good, but I think I am taking the firs step. Now I am drinking a lot of water and with the day being so nice I will probably go for walk. Even if it is around our complex until the boys get home and maybe even after wards and let them play outside.

Lunch will also be tricky. I am meeting a friend OUT for lunch. Ah yes the dreaded eating out. To make it worst it is a Bar and Grill. Now I don’t drink but I do eat FRIED foods. Like I need any of that. Hopefully I can restrain myself so prayers will be greatly needed for will power.

Now that I am in Rochester if anyone from Rochester, NY reads this blog HELP. I have a question. I actually want to pick up dancing. The ballroom type. I look and say that is hard work and yet it looks fun and I love music and I have rhythm. Is there any place to learn how to Ballroom dance or swing dance? I am on a budget but I think if I could do that I would also lose some weight. Also anyone have the Wii Fit? Does it work? Do you like it?

Ok thanks. I know you can’t lose weight alone so that is why I am bringing this site back…

I am Back & Phat (& FAT)

Posted by Brian Neudorff on November 4th, 2008

Wow it has been over a year since I last updated this blog. I am ready to get back to being healthy and losing weight. Here is my story since I made the move from Erie, PA to Rochester, NY. During the move and the stress of the move I lost weight. I even lost inches so I felt like I had my biggest weight lost during this time. Sure it was stressed induced but it was nice. Now fast forward 11 months and I feel like I am at my biggest I have been in the last 6 years and I am tired. I hate the way I feel, look and I think it is also impacting the way I sleep and I need to change.

So here are my challenges. I don’t eat much but I don’t eat as well as I should. I am one of the pickiest eaters I have ever met. So it is tough for me to eat what I should cause I don’t like a lot of veggies. Now that I have moved to a new job I don’t have the same perks. In Erie, I had a gym membership, now I do not. So I know I should just walk. I live in a residential area where that would be very easy to do, but still not getting out to do it. So if you can’t afford a gym membership what should I do besides walking? Please PLEASE give me your tips.

I am going to warn you this will probably be a boring blog. I think I am going to use this site to document my meals for the day and also my work out. Also I have a Wii and wonder if it is worth investing in a Wii Fit. All opinions and info is appreciated. Thank you

No Workout This Week.

Posted by Brian Neudorff on August 25th, 2007

Yeah I know I was bad. I feel really bad too. I don’t really have an excuse except that it is VERY DIFFICULT to get into a regular routine when your everyday routine of the last 3 weeks has been anything but routine. With vacations at the station and other responsibilities I haven’t had many days off and my schedule has been different than the week before.

I have tried to eat sensibly but that has also not been to easy. Although next week is far from being normal and routine I will try to get back into the swing of things. When you don’t have days off it is hard to find time to workout because when you get a free moment you either take care of errands or spend it with your family.

Someone did suggest walking with the family but my little ones wouldn’t be able to keep up to make the walk a good workout. Just my opinion

Workout 08/14/07 & 08/18/07

Posted by Brian Neudorff on August 19th, 2007

Yes there were three days between workouts and I know that is bad, I had already scheduled an appointment on Wednesday it was what happened Thu and Fri that kept me from going to work out before work.

Both of those workouts were walking my three miles. I am feeling better. I like walking because that has been one way I have successfully lost weight in my life. I even kicked in a little jog today. With Nautilus opening back up next week and not having to work every day I should be able to get back into a regular mode and I am going to add weight training to my work out…

Ok keep me motivated. This was kind of a test when I went 4 days with out posting anything no one said “HEY FATSO, GET YOUR BUTT IN GEAR” we all need that once in awhile. I mean if I could do this alone I wouldn’t have this site.

So You Want to Dance?

Posted by Brian Neudorff on August 13th, 2007

OK, it’s only my wife and I that want to dance. I know I could talk to my boss at WJET about this and I will but I thought I would see if there were some other options here in Erie. One of the ways I found to effectively lose weight for me was through dancing. This may be a result of all those years from HS through college where I was in marching band and always “Moving” to the music.

When we were in college Trisha and I got into swing dancing and really enjoyed it plus it is a good workout. Then my last summer in college I interned in Hartford, CT, while I was there I would spend a good deal of my time (when not working) hanging out at a country bar. There I learned all types of dancing. Again was losing weight and having fun at the same time. In fact, it wasn’t until I had been dancing for a couple of weeks that I realized the affects of having fun. That is why I am asking if there is a place I could go and NOT during the weekends to dance or learn to dance regularly and that is also affordable. Thanks for any information you can give me…

Workout 08/13/07

Posted by Brian Neudorff on August 13th, 2007

Well despite my question from the previous post (Workout Help) I decided to go and workout this morning. I went to Family First got on the elliptical machine. I didn’t do it for as long or as hard as had last week. I talked to the trainer there and he suggested getting on the machine and go for about 10 min and see how the back felt. It felt fine through most of the workout but it was beginning to stiffen up and get a little sore after 15 min so I decided I would not push it. Hey at least I went and still did my workout for the day.

I did this before seeing the comments from the above mentioned post from last night. And one person named “UR Conscience” decided to use some tough love:

ADVIL… Take a handful and get back at it. You hurt because your fat, your fat because you don’t work out, you don’t work out because you hurt. Break the cycle. You must decide if you are happy as you are. If so, stop working and the physical pain will fade. The emotional pain of letting everyone down will only build over time. You are not doing this for yourself, you are doing this for your wife and kids. Give them someone to be proud of, set an example for your kids so they will be more likely to avoid weight problems in their lives.

I didn’t take the ADVIL or other pain killers. I don’t like to take pills unless I absolutely have to or the pain is so bad I can’t function. I actually don’t mind these kind of comments. This person cares and I want to thank them. Now, I have to ask was 15 minutes on the elliptical machine still O.K., or should I have pushed myself more and beyond the 30 min and gone harder and longer?

I did what the trainer suggested and I feel good about it. I will watch what I eat tonight and keep it going. I am feeling good that people are commenting and caring and wanting to help. Thank You…

Workout Help

Posted by Brian Neudorff on August 13th, 2007

OK, I enjoyed my walk on Saturday, but I am really paying for it. I hurt. My legs and especially my lower back really is sore and it hurts. With this pain how should I return to working out. I really want to keep it going and planned on doing some cardio with the goal of also adding weight training. At this point with how sore my back is I am not sure if I should. Plus I am so stiff to do anything… The only thing I am contemplating is a walk but not as long and not as hard… What do you think?

Actual Workout: 08/11/07

Posted by Brian Neudorff on August 11th, 2007

ok I never made it to the gym Friday Night. I forgot that Nautilus closes at 1am and once I had time to go it was to late but Saturday I walked roughly 3 miles. It was a good brisk walk. So I feel pretty good. I am not going to work out on Sunday, but hopefully I can add the weight training to the list as well as maybe one more day next week

Workout: 08/10/07

Posted by Brian Neudorff on August 10th, 2007

This is another pre-workout post. My plan is to go late Friday Night or do it before I go to work on Saturday but I am definitely going in the next 24 hours… Also, I have been watching what and how much I eat.

I still want to thank all of you who visit and also post comments (Now if I could only get the same response over on my weather blog) A lot of you have given me tips on what I should do and how to break up my work outs. I thank you but I do have a plan in mind.

Some of you might actually remember about a year and half ago I tried to use our  Toned and Trim Tuesday segment on Good Morning Erie to get back into shape. That didn’t work real well. We were going to continuously keep tabs on my progress so there wasn’t a lot of accountability. Eventually I just couldn’t keep it going. During that time we did set up a weight training circuit as well as cardio. So I will do what I can to keep it new and fresh.

Right now, I am just focusing on getting into the habit. Starting slow. hopefully next week I will add the weight training and go from there. I would love to have someone to work out with (Trisha can’t cause we can’t afford her membership and I get mine through the station) but I will make it this time

Again thanks for all the support, keep it up

Workout or Not To Workout

Posted by Brian Neudorff on August 9th, 2007

Ok, I have a feeling when most see the title the first reaction is “Work out, of course” but this is my first week back in the gym after several months off being lazy and getting fatter. I went last night/early this morning however you want to look at it and did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine. Now, because my legs hurt and I just feel very “uncomfortable” all over I am curious if I should go again tonight.

I know I won’t get the same kind of work out I would normally get if I felt better. If I did go I may hit the pool or just walk the track at a reasonable pace.  I know someone commented in an early post that since I am trying to get back into the swing of things that I should go one day and then take a day off to get my stamina up to a level where I can sustain an every day or a 4 to 5 times a week regiment.

So here are my questions. Should I go even though I went last night late and I am very sore and uncomfortable? If I do go what should and how hard should I go at it? Should I try to do 30 min again on the elliptical and stair master or go more low impact in th pool or just a casual walk for 30 min around the track?

Please leave me your thoughts.
